Turnip tops regrouped to "leafy brassicas"

Date: 06.02.2019

For the authorisation of plant protection products turnip tops are with immediate effect regrouped to the crop group of “leafy brassica”. As a result, plant protection products which have been authorised for “leafy brassica” and the superordinate group of “brassica vegetables” (excluding brassica roots and brassica baby leaf crops) can be applied in turnip tops.

The previous classification as “leafy vegetables” is repealed. The existing authorisations are maintained, therefore, turnip tops will be added additionally to the authorisations for “leafy vegetables” and “leafy vegetables and fresh herbs”. The regrouping will be considered in authorisation procedures still under assessment.

The regrouping was suggested to align the commonly used crop groups within the authorisation procedure for plant protection products with the product grouping for setting maximum residue levels (Annex I of the Regulation (EC) No. 396/2005 of the European Parliament and of the Council for maximum residue levels in or on food and feed of plant and animal origin and their possible extrapolations).
